Interface Cool FuelTM Program

Scientists believe that basic human activities have increased atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO 2) and may be leading to an increase in global average temperatures. Interface is committed to supporting and investing in programs that can positively impact this issue. As a result, Interface has partnered with BP, one of the world's largest petroleum companies, to create the Interface Cool Fuel program; a unique opportunity to "zero out" the CO2 emissions caused by our company's business related auto travel.

This program is a major step in our company's goals to reduce our CO2 footprint and a significant milestone in our journey to sustainability.

"It's one more way that our employees can 'walk the talk' on our journey up Mt. Sustainability and show others the way," says Buddy Hay, vice president of sustainable operations for Interface.

BP provides a corporate rebate to Interface based on the gallons of fuel purchased in the Cool Fuel program. Interface then uses this rebate to purchase CO 2 emission offsets which, in effect, zero out the impact.

At this time, Interface's costs for offsets are no more than what is recovered through the rebate program, so the Cool Fuel program is not only "climate neutral." It is also "cost neutral."

Since August 2002, Interface associates with company cars have purchased and consumed more than 423,000 gallons of fuel using the Interface Cool Fuel Card. For each gallon of fuel consumed, 25 pounds of CO 2 is emitted into the atmosphere, resulting in Interface offsetting over 4,800 metric tonnes of CO2.

Using the rebate from our fuel purchases, Interface buys CO2 credits from a variety of sources to offset these emissions. The credits come from a blended portfolio of social and environmental projects including credits from renewable energy projects, carbon sequestration projects, intermodal transport projects and climate neutral product manufacture in other industries.
