Interface’s Contributions to the Tsunami Relief Effort

Interface associates around the world joined hands in the worldwide relief effort to assist the victims of the earthquake/tsunami disaster in and around Southeast Asia.

Soon after the disaster struck, Interface responded to the news by encouraging its employees worldwide to give to the relief efforts through the organization(s) of their choice, and pledging to match employee contributions, up to $30,000 by giving to four key organizations: International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Save the Children, UNICEF and Habitat for Humanity.

On February 22, 2005, Dan Hendrix, president and CEO of Interface, Inc. reported that Interface associates made personal contributions of more than $48,000 and that the corporation had matched with $30,000 for a total of $78,000 for humanitarian relief.

Interface’s associate contributions and corporate contribution helped enable the following things to take place:

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are providing food, clean water, health care, psychological support and shelter materials as well as household and hygiene articles to survivors.

UNICEF’s Tsunami Water and Sanitation Fund is providing education kits and temporary classrooms to get children back to school, as well as clean water, emergency immunizations and food.

Save the Children continues to register children and reunite them with parents and relatives, including sending trained child protection officers to camps for displaced people to help protect vulnerable children from being trafficked or exploited.

Habitat for Humanity International’s initial response plan calls for transitional and permanent housing projects in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand to house some 25,000 families in a first-phase effort and tens of thousands of families in the long term.

In addition to the monetary contributions, Interface Modernform, Ltd. in Thailand has developed a program for donating second quality carpet tiles to charitable organizations in support of requests for carpet to be used in the rebuilding program following the disaster.
